Stater Bros Markets - Non service dogs allowed in store
we were walking in to the store on state st. in san jacinto.
an older woman with a medium size dog walked into the store.the dog did not have the appropriate vest like a service dog. I told the manager about the dog being allowed in without checking for appropriate license. he ignored me as he has in the past.
the dog walked over to a display of potato chips and started to *** all over the bags. This is not first time people have been allowed to bring their pets to the store and the manager will not ask for PROOF OF SERVICE LICENSE!!!! What should i expect next, the dog pooping in the produce section.
Reason of review: i left the store without buying my groceries as planned.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
Location: San Jacinto, California

I manage a library so I know the law because I have to enforce it. We cannot ask to be shown proof that itโs a service dog.
The only questions that can be asked are โIs it a service dog,โ and โwhat service is it trained to perform?โ And they are not required to have the vest on the dog. However, the animal you saw was clearly not a service dog because of what it did, and at that point the manager could have and should have stepped in and told the customer to take the dog out of the store.
they are not allowed to ask for a "LICEKSE". https://www.ada.gov/regs2010/service_animal_qa.html
I have seen a lot worse when it cones to kids!! I'll take a dog anyday over kids running, standing in the way or snot all over the basket!
Its illegal in the state of california to request proof of disability. They can ask if it is a service animal if the guest says yes there's nothing that can be said or asked. A service animal is not required to wear anything identifying itself as such.
Unfortunaly you are not allowed to ask for the license the only thing you can ask is if the service the dog provides if for a disability. Of course the dog you are speaking of is OBVIOUSLY NOT a service dog because service dogs are well mannered and always potty trained
You could contact your city's Health Department and report this. Apparently when the Health Inspectors do their routine inspections they have never seen a dog, or just assumed it was a service dog.
This should definitely be reported.
I have heard of a lot of people that consider their companion dogs, to be the same as service dogs, but there is a difference. When people that have companion dogs are out among other people, even if they are among strangers, they don't need to have their dog with for companionship.
